Taekwondo was part of my life for many years until the high impact practice finally started to take a toll on my body. After 10 years of practice, I decided it was time for me to move to a different type of practice/discipline. While I was searching what that could be, I discovered Yoga and fell in love with the practice. After practicing Yoga for almost 6 years, I took my practice to the next level and enrolled in yoga teacher training at Joy Yoga Center. In February 2015 I received my RYT 200 hr. certification from Larry Trahen, Bodhin Yoga.
Inspired by Larry and my fellow yogis, my passion for yoga and the desire to teach yoga grew. On my personal journey I have learned that you are able to connect your breathing with your mind and body during the practice of yoga. This allows the practice to become a form of meditation and also a journey of self-discovery. To achieve this, practice must be done with discipline, commitment, consistency, and an open mind. To immerse yourself in the practice of yoga you must let go of everything else allowing the practice to become what you want it to be.
In January 2015 I started teaching yoga at Kendall Community Center. Teaching free classes at a community center reinforced my passion for the practice as well as honing my teaching skills. It has been a most rewarding experience that has allowed me to embrace the joy of teaching yoga. As a teacher, I want to be an inspiration to others and pass on the desire to practice and learn about yoga along with its wonderful benefits. My focus is always on a safe practice through breathing, stretching, and strengthening. I focus on body alignment and yet allow my students to modify the practice to meet their own physical needs. I also want to share with others the happiness and longevity that the practice will bring no matter what their age, gender, and level of practice. Yoga can be practiced for a lifetime. It is a journey of learning and discovering about self through the physical practice of Asana. I hope I can instill that philosophy to my students.
